Caerus' policy is to respect the privacy of your personal information. Our approach is detailed in this policy document, which embodies the National Privacy Principles of the federal Privacy Act 1988.
Purpose of information collection
During the course of providing business services to you, we collect such standard information as business location, phone and email contact addresses. These details will enable us to contact you for the purpose of providing our professional services.
If any additional information is gathered, it will generally be as a result of a direct approach to you, and permission granted by you. For example we may send you a survey document so that you can verify that the information we hold is accurate, complete, and up-to-date. Additional information may also be sought via offers to attend seminars, receive newsletters, attend social events, or other marketing activities that you may reasonably expect our practice to engage in as part of building our business relationship with you.
Use and disclosure
Caerus does not collect information from third parties, and does not disclose your details to any third party, unless we have received your permission to do so.
We do not send information to any associated bodies, strategic partners or the like unless we are assured that they abide by the same privacy principles as we do, and unless you have permitted us to do so.
For example, any correspondence sent electronically will include an opportunity for you to opt out of receiving any further material. Any third party approaching us for your contact details, where not strictly related to the administration matter at hand or authorised by law, will be refused unless and until your consent is given.
The directors and staff of de Caerus take our professional obligations of confidentiality seriously, and employ strict measures to safeguard personal information from inappropriate use or disclosure.
We are conscious that while the Privacy Act gives a particular definition of "sensitive" personal information, this is very much a matter for each individual's own boundaries and preferences. Therefore, even where we may not be legally required to do so in every instance, we believe your consent must be obtained to the collection and use of your personal information. This is an expression of one of our core business values of openness and honesty.
Accuracy
Caerus makes every effort to ensure that information is current and accurate.
If you believe that any details we may hold about you are incorrect, would you please advise us accordingly on (02) 9252 3455 or by email mail@caerus.com.au.
Security
Our hard copy files are held in a library on premises with electronic protection for physical access. Our electronic files are held on databases with password protection and firewall security. All reasonable efforts are made to keep your personal information safe, in accordance with the guidelines on electronic and database privacy issued by the Attorney General's department. You may wish to seek further information on these issues at www.law.gov.au/privacy
Caerus cautions that the internet is not a secure environment, and that any information you may choose to provide by that means would be at your own risk.
Access / Complaint
Your rights to access personal information are documented in National Privacy Principle #6. In most cases we will provide access to you upon request. If unable to do so under the restrictions embodied in NPP6, we will explain the reason why.
Should you have any concerns about the way in which your personal information may have been used, the Office of the Federal Privacy Commissioner recommends first trying to resolve your complaint with us. You may then wish to forward details to the Commissioner for handling. This process is explained on their website www.privacy.gov.au
